Invisible Line

Invisible Line, 2018
inkjet print on PVC, aluminum construction, 311 × 204 × 40 cm

A dashed line in this configuration is commonly associated with the representation of something lying behind it or otherwise invisible. In the head-like drawings of Invisible Line, this dashed line may also suggest a pair of closed eyes or the brim of a hat—an expression of bourgeois individuation. In the initial, small-format series of Invisible Line, I am interested, among other things, in such ciphers of classical portraiture activated with minimal means. Through their monumentality, the large-format versions of Invisible Line shift the focus toward the viewer’s bodily experience. The head becomes a rock / idol that almost asks to be walked around.
